It's now official, Kevin Garnett is the leading vote-getter for the upcoming All-Star Game (nba.com):

Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett led all players in votes received in the NBA All-Star Balloting program presented by T-Mobile that determines starters for the 2008 NBA All-Star Game. Garnett, who will be appearing in his 11th All-Star Game and was the MVP of the 2003 All-Star Game, received 2,399,148 votes, the sixth highest total in NBA All-Star Balloting history. Among active players, Garnett’s 11th All-Star selection ranks second to Miami Heat center Shaquille O’Neal (14).

Garnett edged last year’s top vote-getter and 2006 All-Star MVP LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who came in second overall with 2,108,831 votes.

So, it's looking like Doc and KG will be representin' the Green at White in N'Awlins come February, while Pierce should be a shoe-in for a reserve spot ... As for Ray Allen (third amongst Eastern Conference guard behind Wade and Kidd with 1,061,740 votes), I'm not so sure that he's going to make it; some people seem to think that the other coaches will vote him in just to provide Doc with his "triple threat" for the game, but I'm think that his recent struggles kind of preclude him from the night's festivities.

I dunno, I guess we'll find out soon enough ...

THE STORY:

You've just enjoyed another blowout victory by the Celtics at home. It's about 10:30 on an eerily dark night, as you exit the TD Banknorth Garden.

You've had one too many beers during the game, and you find yourself stumbling around looking for a cab ... when you're suddenly in the middle of the Old Granary Burying Ground in downtown Boston.

Having no recollection of how you actually made your way into the cemetery, you mutter a silent curse to yourself that you'll go easy on the libations next time ... and that's when you notice some movement amongst the shadows.

You only catch it out of the corner of your eye (it's a blur of red and gray), and at first dismiss it as merely your imagination - and intoxicated state - playing tricks with your mind.

However, it doesn't take long before a guttural sound catches your attention which chills you to the bone, a combination of a low moan and an inhuman growl ... and then they appear before you.

Surrounding you, you have no way of escaping, as these lumbering masses of rotting white flesh advance upon you ... However, in an odd twist of fate that can only happen in a video game, you notice a loaded shotgun just inches away from you.

Picking it up, you're determined not to give in without a fight ...

Isiah's sour grapes

Isiah Thomas laughed when someone compared the Celtics' overnight turnaround - sparked by trades for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen last summer - to the Knicks' plodding rebuilding effort. "They got Kevin Garnett," Thomas said with an incredulous smile. "That's a Celtic trade." He was referring to the fact that Garnett was traded to Boston by Kevin McHale, the vice president of the Minnesota Timberwolves and a Celtics legend. "I have to wait for Dumars," Thomas joked, referring to his old backcourt mate Joe Dumars, the Detroit Pistons' team president.

Tell me again why this guy hasn't been fired yet?

NEW YORK, Jan. 15, 2008 – The Boston Celtics and the team's All-Star forward Kevin Garnett lead the NBA's lists of Most Popular Jerseys and Most Popular Team Merchandise in sales at the NBA Store in New York City and online at NBAStore.com for the holiday season. The offseason acquisition of Garnett, along with the team’s fast start, has catapulted the team and Garnett to the top spots for the first time since the NBA began compiling the lists in 2001.

Garnett jerseys have tripled in sales since last season. (At the end of the 2005-06 season, Garnett's jersey was ranked No. 16 and did not appear on last year's list.) Celtics merchandise also has seen a triple-digit sales increase since last season. The team was ranked No. 7 on the list at the end of the 2006-07 season.
